I wish that summertime meant more time for reading, but so far that hasn’t happened! I have a stack of books that I plan to get through over the next few weeks to share with you. But for now, I’d love to share with you some articles that I’ve found especially helpful.
The first is No Easy Button for Fruitful Youth Ministry by Mark DeVries. In this article, DeVries addresses the common problem that churches face of wanting the easy solution to solve all of their youth ministry problems. Thankfully, the article addresses many of the common misconceptions about a healthy and fruitful youth ministry. If you’ve ever thought that hiring a youth minister would solve your problems or been curious about what kind of investment your church should be making in the youth program, check this article out!
The second article is Listening to Young Atheists: Lessons for a Stronger Christianity by Larry Alex Taunton. This is a fascinating look at when and how young people lost their belief. Taunton interviewed self-proclaimed atheists and shares their relationship with the church and how they became atheists. If we pay attention, it will shape how we do ministry with young people.
