The youth at First UMC in Waxahachie had an incredible summer serving others. In June they did their mission trip in the near by towns (Lancaster, Waxahachie, and Ennis). They built ramps, cleaned up the community from post tornado, and even painted a few houses.
In July, they went out to Fort Worth to join with others to help and serve at Unity Park. Unity Park is an area that reaches out to the low income and homeless area. We provided breakfast, playtime, and prayer time with all who showed up.
In Waxahachie there is a facility called Hope Clinic that is a pace to receive medical attention for low income families. We reached out to them by assisting them with their fundraiser. We served a lunch to all the people who came to this event and showed our support to Hope Clinic.
Several of the students in this student ministry are from the Methodist Children’s Home in Waxahachie. Youth Minister Shannon Poarch is mindful of ways to tear down walls and serve others while also building community within the youth program. “One of (the students from the MCH) now see themselves as a leader in their home at MCH and has had a turn around with the realization that they can make a difference in the lives around them. (in acts of service to the community and homes).”
A huge thanks to Shannon for sharing a story with us. Please remember that you can always turn in your ministry story to receive a spotlight on…award!
